Commercial Apartment Complex, Working Structure Fire, Confirmed Entrapment

Thursday, June 11th, 2008: 0610 Hours

At 0610 hours, 161 crews were dispatched for a working commercial structure fire with confirmed multiple entrapment at 520 Coursin Street in the City of McKeesport. Upon dispatch 161 Truck responded with 161 Squad close behind en-route to the scene. Upon arrival on-scene, 161 units were second on-scene following McKeesport Fire Department. 161 units pulled up to a working fire at a 3 story apartment building. 161 truck layed-in and supplied water for fire attact on the Coursin Street side. 161 units assisted 190 firefighters with fire attack both inside the structure and from the exterior. All victim's were safely rescued from the fire. Nearly 45 minutes into the incident, units on-scene found that portions of the 3rd. floor of the structure gave away and collapsed. No firefighter's sustained injury. Fire was extinguished completely by units on-scene which included McKeesport, Glassport, White Oak, Duquense, Port Vue, West Mifflin Station 294, and EMS units. All units and victims cleared the incident without any injury.

At 2124 hours Station 161 was alerted for a reported carbon monoxide activation at 317 Erie Avenue in Glassport.. Truck and Squad 161 responded with Assistant 161 in Command. Nothing was found. Units were cleared after gas company arrived on scene. While Truck 161 was returning to the station, 161 crews were then alerted for a smell of gas in a structure with illnesses at 921 Vankirk Street in the City of Clairton. Once on-scene all units cleared per 123 Chief, nothing was found. All units cleared without incident.
